Job Description

Position Overview

A critical element in Emsi’s strategy is to use consulting resources to quickly and flexibly design solutions that meet customer requirements, which will also help inform our product development strategy. Another critical element is working with clients to implement results of economic impact, program alignment, and custom analyses.

We are looking for an ambitious and personable consultant who has experience in labor market research. You must be a customer-focused individual who is motivated to find creative ways to apply data and insight to truly solve customer problems. We require someone who has a commitment to going the extra mile to produce rigorous, accurate work, within the constraints of the time and resources available. They must be able to fit within the dynamics of a small but rapidly growing team.

The Economic Consultant will work with the Higher Education Consulting team to develop, deliver, and mature Emsi’s consulting offerings in the higher education market across the United States and Canada. The Economic Consultant will have a two-pronged goal – apply Emsi’s innovative datasets into new and custom solutions, and work with clients on-the-ground in the implementation of the consulting solutions. The implementation could be considered “Phase 2” of a project – in other words, after Emsi has delivered the findings from a consulting analysis, some clients may require ongoing support to use the analyses to make data-driven decisions at the institution.

About Us

At Emsi, we’re focused on the student-to-employment journey. For better than 15 years, we’ve served as labor market advisors to leaders in higher education, business, and community development. We partner with colleges and universities to help them leverage their economic impact, offer industry-aligned academic programs, and drive student success; we work with economic and workforce development professionals to bolster prosperity in their communities by bringing in new businesses, helping existing companies grow, and finding good jobs for their residents; and we help businesses use data to drive talent strategy and align recruiting efforts, empowering them to hire the talent they need as quickly and affordably as possible.

Major Responsibilities and Activities

  • Conduct quantitative analyses using Emsi data and other data sources to create custom solutions for colleges and universities.
  • Write and well-document methodology and findings of the quantitative analyses, with the added ability of simplifying the findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Communicate with clients the findings of the analyses, including how to use the findings to make data-driven decisions.
  • Work closely with the United States and Canada Higher Education Sales team to establish relationships and trust with key decision makers for prospective and current clients.
  • Support in the response to RFPs, development of scopes of work and methodologies, the execution of awarded proposals and managing consulting client relationships.

Job Requirements

Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a field with a quantitative and analytic focus preferred, or at least 3 years of experience in a consulting environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with MS office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to meet milestones while juggling multiple responsibilities and work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel.

  • Experience making data-driven decisions while working in a Higher Education setting.
  • Ability to compose written analyses that explain complex economic concepts in simple terms.
  • Strong quality assurance skills with attention to detail in both quantitative analyses and technical writing.
